- New Beginnings
-
Working for five years, then going back to school is a strange feeling. I found that
it seemed particularly odd to have nearly five weeks of break between semesters. I was
kind of surprised by how much I just wanted to start back up. Today is the second day
of the spring term, so I have had a chance to attend all of the classes that I will
have this semeseter. As dorky as it may sound I am extremely excited to get back into
it. I am also hoping to be better about keeping up this journal.
I spent a couple of weeks of my break preparing my portfolio for inclusion in job
applications for summer work/internship at an architecture firm. Right now I am looking
mostly at firms in Seattle and DC, but also some in San Francisco and NYC. Currently,
despite never working in an architecture firm before, I am feeling pretty optimistic
because I have been working hard to learn CAD programs in my spare time. Although
nothing beats experience in a firm, I hope to at least be competitive with other people
applying for summer positions.
This semester looks like it will be somewhat similar to the last in terms of courses.
I have my studio (of course), a seminar class, and a building structures class. I
thought about trying to fit in another course, but I am weary of overcommitting myself.
Our first studio project is to, well, do something with a large steel nail that
we were given. I will write more about that after things have gotten rolling!
